From Burnout to Alignment: the Story Behind Kindred Minds

My name is Yash, and I started Kindred Minds with the hope of bringing together like-minded people to explore life’s bigger questions. Understanding who I am and living in line with those values has been my journey for the last seven years.

In December 2010, I was accepted into my dream college. When I arrived on campus later that fall, I had no clue what I wanted to do in my life.

So I started to follow what I saw around me – a culture focused on achievement. Soon enough, I saw a clear path: get a great job, make lots of money, be well respected by my peers, be in a position of authority, have a great family, and retire early. Clear enough.

I got pretty good at following that path. By my senior year, I had founded a tech company that started to do well - we raised money from investors, get great press, and have a growing team. This was the promised land.

But then reality sunk in. I was deeply unhappy. I felt lonely and constantly stressed out. At some point, I would just want to sleep in to avoid facing the day. Everything looked great from the outside, but the reality was so different.

I decided to quit the company that I had helped build. But it wasn’t just that, I also quit the identity that had come to define me.

Over the last 6 years since I quit my startup, I learned that success has to come from within. It is about understanding ourselves and having the courage to live aligned with what matters most to us. Alignment leads to deeper fulfillment and purpose. This insight was both frightening and liberating. It’s up to me to build the life that I want to live.

I was able to reset, ask myself what really mattered, and start to make changes to live with greater alignment. I am building Kindred Minds to help myself along my journey and perhaps help others live with greater alignment too.

We focus on structured reflection, community, and accountability to help people understand themselves, learn from others, and live with greater fulfillment. We’re building a new (and cheaper!) approach to traditional 1:1 coaching.

It has been amazing to touch so many people and help them understand themselves, what they want out of life, and connect with their cohorts as they work to build their best life. If this story connects with you, we’d love to have you. You can sign up here. The future is bright, and we’re just getting started.
